IMAGINARY LINES
Isobar (isobare): A line (on a map or chart, or imaginary) connecting places at which the atmospheric pressure is the same (at a given time, or on average).
Isobath: A line (imaginary or on a map) joining places where water has equal depth; an underwater contour.
Isocheim: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting places having the same mean winter temperature; an isotherm of mean winter temperature.
Isochore: A curve on a diagram that represents a physical system at constant volume.
Isochron: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting points at which a particular event occurs or occurred at the same time.
Isochron: Geol. A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting points on the sea floor formed at the same time.
Isoclinal: A line indicating or connecting points on the earth’s surface at which the magnetic inclination is the same.
Isocline: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting points of equal gradient.
Isocline: A line connecting points where the rate of change of some quantity is the same.
Isocrymal: A line, imaginary or on a map connecting places at which the temperature is the same during a specified coldest part of the year.
Isodynamic: A line, indicating or connecting points (on the earth’s surface, etc.) at which the intensity of the magnetic force is the same.
Isoflor: A line (imaginary or on a map) linking areas containing equal numbers of plant species.
Isogam: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting points where the acceleration due to gravity has the same value.
Isogeotherm: A line or surface (imaginary or on a diagram) connecting points in the interior of the earth having the same temperature.
Isogloss: A line on a map indicating the boundary of an area of occurrence of a significant linguistic feature (as of vocabulary or pronunciation).
Isogonic: A line (on a map etc.) indicating or connecting points of the earth’s surface at which the magnetic declination, wind direction, etc., is the same.
Isohaline: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting points which have the same salinity.
Isohel: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting points having the same amount or duration of sunshine.

Isohyetal: A line on a map connecting places having equal annual or seasonal rainfall.
Isolex: A line (imaginary or on a map) bounding an area in which some item of vocabulary occurs; a lexical isogloss.

Isomagnetic: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting places which have the same value of a particular parameter of the earth’s magnetic field.
Isometric: A line in a diagram that corresponds to or represents states of equal volume.
Isopachyte: A line (on a map or diagram) joining points below which a particular stratum or group of strata has the same thickness.
Isophene: Also -phane A line (imaginary or on a map) linking places in which seasonal biological phenomena (the flowering of plants etc.) occur at the same time.
Isophenomenal: A line on a map connecting places at which phenomena of any kind are equal.
Isophone: A line (imaginary or on a map) bounding an area in which some feature of pronunciation occurs; a phonetic isogloss.
Isophote: Also –phot A line (imaginary or in a diagram) connecting points where the intensity of light or other radiation is the same.
Isopleth: A line (imaginary or on a map or diagram) connecting points for which some chosen quantity has the same value.
Isopycnal: A line (imaginary or on a map or chart) or an imaginary surface connecting points which have the same density.
Isopycnic: A line (imaginary or on a map or chart) or an imaginary surface connecting points at which the density (esp. of the atmosphere) is the same.
Isostere: A line (imaginary or on a map or diagram) or an imaginary surface connecting points where something (e.g. a body of water, the atmosphere) has equal specific volumes.
Isotheral: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting places having the same mean summer temperature.

Isotherm : A line (imaginary or on a map) passing through points (esp. on the earth’s surface) having the same mean temperature; an isothermal line.
Isothermal : A line (imaginary or on a map or chart) connecting places on the earth’s surface at which the temperature for a particular period, or the mean annual temperature, is the same.
Isothermobath: A line (imaginary or on a map) connecting points of equal temperature at various depths in a vertical section of the sea
